- Admin badge display
Technical Implementation Details
1. Message Flow
- User types message and presses Enter
- Client validates message and sends to server
- Server broadcasts to appropriate recipients
- All clients update their UI in real-time
- Messages stored in game state for persistence
2. Chat Isolation
- Lobby chat: Global for all logged-in users
- Game chat: Specific to active game participants
- Private messages: Not implemented (future feature)
3. Performance Considerations
- Message limit to prevent memory issues
- Efficient DOM updates with Blazor diffing
- Debounced scroll operations
- Minimal SignalR payload size
4. Security
- Message sanitization (basic HTML escaping)
- User authentication verification
- Rate limiting considerations
- Chat logging for moderation

builder.Services.AddSingleton<LobbyChatService>();
JavaScript Integration
Chat Functions
// Auto-scroll chat to bottom
window.draftsChat.scrollToBottom = function(el) {
try {
if (!el) return;
el.scrollTop = el.scrollHeight;
} catch (e) {
// Handle errors silently
}
};
// Wire Enter key to send message
window.draftsChat.wireEnterToSend = function(el, dotNetRef) {
try {
if (!el || !dotNetRef) return;
if (el.__draftsEnterWired) return;
el.__draftsEnterWired = true;
el.addEventListener('keydown', function(ev) {
try {
if (ev.key === 'Enter') {
ev.preventDefault();
dotNetRef.invokeMethodAsync('OnChatEnterFromJs');
}
} catch (e) {
// Handle errors silently
}
});
} catch (e) {
// Handle errors silently
}
};
Usage Examples
Lobby Chat
<LobbyChat CurrentUserId="@_cachedUserId" />
Game Chat
<div class="chat-panel">
<div class="messages" ref="@_chatMessagesEl">
@foreach (var msg in game.ChatMessages)
{
<div class="message">
<span class="user">@msg.UserName:</span>
<span class="text">@msg.Text</span>
<span class="time">@msg.Timestamp:HH:mm</span>
</div>
}
</div>
<input @bind="_chatMessage" @onkeypress="OnChatKeyPress" />
</div>
